Let ρ:X→R\rho:\mathcal X\to\mathbb Rρ:X→R be a subadditive risk measure on a space X\mathcal XX of bounded positions containing the constants: ρ(X+Y)≤ρ(X)+ρ(Y)\rho(X+Y)\le\rho(X)+\rho(Y)ρ(X+Y)≤ρ(X)+ρ(Y) for all X,YX,YX,Y. The following are equivalent:

  1. ρ\rhoρ is star-shaped;
  2. ρ\rhoρ is positively homogeneous (thus coherent);
  3. ρ\rhoρ is convex.

Hence coherent risk measures are exactly the subadditive star-shaped ones, and positive homogeneity in the definition of coherence can be weakened to star-shapedness.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
