If the smaller faces behave, the preimage of the relative boundary of a face is relatively compact

Let X,YX,YX,Y, FFF and CCC be as in the card Plasticity.Faces.matchesFace_of_finiteDimensional, with dim⁡C=n\dim C=ndimC=n, and suppose that every face C′⊆CC'\subseteq CC′⊆C of BYB_YBY contained in the sphere with dim⁡C′<n\dim C'<ndimC′<n satisfies the conclusions of the face theorem (MatchesFace F C'). Then the preimage BX∩F−1(∂C)B_X\cap F^{-1}(\partial C)BX∩F−1(∂C) of the relative boundary of CCC lies in a compact set. The proof traps it in the smallest face of the preimage qqq of a relative-interior point: for each boundary preimage aaa, the path (λ+v)q−va(\lambda+v)q-va(λ+v)q−va crosses λ∂C\lambda\partial Cλ∂C, which is exactly covered by λBX∩F−1(∂C)\lambda B_X\cap F^{-1}(\partial C)λBX∩F−1(∂C), so qqq lies strictly between aaa and another boundary preimage.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
