Let XXX be a finite set and let ≿,≿0,⊵\succsim,\succsim_0,\trianglerighteq≿,≿0,⊵ be acyclic orders on XXX with ≿→≿0↠⊵\succsim\to\succsim_0\twoheadrightarrow\trianglerighteq≿→≿0↠⊵ (that is, ≿0\succsim_0≿0 is a one-step perturbation of ≿\succsim≿ toward ⊵\trianglerighteq⊵). Then for every S⊆XS\subseteq XS⊆X the sets

M(S,≿)△M(S,≿0)andM(S,≿0)△M(S,⊵)M(S,\succsim)\triangle M(S,\succsim_0)\quad\text{and}\quad M(S,\succsim_0)\triangle M(S,\trianglerighteq)M(S,≿)△M(S,≿0)andM(S,≿0)△M(S,⊵)

are disjoint, and their union equals M(S,≿)△M(S,⊵)M(S,\succsim)\triangle M(S,\trianglerighteq)M(S,≿)△M(S,⊵).

The lemma says that a one-step perturbation toward ⊵\trianglerighteq⊵ never moves the set of maximal elements of a menu away from that of ⊵\trianglerighteq⊵; summed over menus it gives the additivity (Axiom 1′) of every DμD^\muDμ.

Formalization Note M(S,⋅)M(S,\cdot)M(S,⋅) is maxSet S, with S ranging over all finite subsets of XXX.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
