Let (zt,yt)t=1T(z_t,y_t)_{t=1}^T(zt,yt)t=1T be any sequence with zt∈Rdz_t\in\mathbb R^dzt∈Rd, yt∈{−1,1}y_t\in\{-1,1\}yt∈{−1,1}, and ∥zt∥2≤R\|z_t\|_2\le R∥zt∥2≤R. Run Algorithm 8.2 and write MMM for its number of mistakes, counting zero-score predictions as mistakes. For every u∈Rdu\in\mathbb R^du∈Rd and every real q≥1q\ge1q≥1, put Lq(u)=∑t=1Tmax⁡(1−yt⟨zt,u⟩,0)qL_q(u)=\sum_{t=1}^T\max(1-y_t\langle z_t,u\rangle,0)^qLq(u)=∑t=1Tmax(1−yt⟨zt,u⟩,0)q. Then

M−Lq(u)≤q2R2∥u∥222+qR∥u∥2q2R2∥u∥224+Lq(u).M-L_q(u)\le \frac{q^2R^2\|u\|_2^2}{2} +qR\|u\|_2\sqrt{\frac{q^2R^2\|u\|_2^2}{4}+L_q(u)}.M−Lq(u)≤2q2R2∥u∥22+qR∥u∥24q2R2∥u∥22+Lq(u).

The bound compares the Perceptron's mistakes simultaneously with the hinge-power loss of every fixed linear competitor.

Formalization Note Rounds are indexed from 111. The auxiliary feature set X⊆RdX\subseteq\mathbb R^dX⊆Rd is omitted because the theorem quantifies over the sequence itself and uses only its norm bound. The implicit R≥0R\ge0R≥0 is explicit; R=0R=0R=0 and T=0T=0T=0 are included. The square-root argument is nonnegative since hinge-power losses are nonnegative for q≥1q\ge1q≥1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
