Let (x^,z^)∈H(\hat x,\hat z)\in\mathcal H(x^,z^)∈H, where H\mathcal HH is the polyhedron of the Markov chain choice model. Then there exist K≥1K\ge 1K≥1, extreme points (x1,z1),…,(xK,zK)(x^1,z^1),\dots,(x^K,z^K)(x1,z1),…,(xK,zK) of H\mathcal HH, and positive scalars γ1,…,γK\gamma^1,\dots,\gamma^Kγ1,…,γK with ∑k=1Kγk=1\sum_{k=1}^K\gamma^k = 1∑k=1Kγk=1 such that

x^=∑k=1Kγkxkandz^=∑k=1Kγkzk.\hat x = \sum_{k=1}^K\gamma^k x^k \qquad\text{and}\qquad \hat z = \sum_{k=1}^K \gamma^k z^k.x^=k=1∑Kγkxkandz^=k=1∑Kγkzk.

This is the representation of a point of the polytope H\mathcal HH through its vertices; combined with Lemma 1 it expresses any point of H\mathcal HH through the vectors (PS,RS)(P_S,R_S)(PS,RS).

Formalization Note KKK is a natural number and the extreme points and weights are indexed by Fin K; the condition ∑kγk=1\sum_k\gamma^k = 1∑kγk=1 forces K≥1K\ge 1K≥1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
