No finite word with two distinct letters is closed under fourth terms 3b−2a3b-2a3b−2a

Let QQQ be a finite word of integers with at least two distinct letters. Then some letter aaa occurs before some letter bbb with

3b−2a∉Q.3b-2a\notin Q.3b−2a∈/Q.

Hence no finite set with at least two elements can be listed so that every in-order pair is closed by its fourth term; such full closure cannot serve as the invariant for finite stages of a Ho-style construction of 444-AP-free permutations of Z\mathbb{Z}Z (Erdős Problem 195).

Formalization note: positions are List.idxOf; duplicates are allowed in Q.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
