Let x,yx, yx,y be probability vectors on the ordered set {1,…,m}\{1, \dots, m\}{1,…,m} and let TTT be the stochastic dominance coordinates, (Tx)i=∑j>ixj(Tx)_i = \sum_{j > i} x_j(Tx)i=∑j>ixj. Then

Ty≥Tx  ⟺  ∑i=1k(yi−xi)≤0  for all k<m.T y \ge T x \iff \sum_{i=1}^{k} (y_i - x_i) \le 0 \ \text{ for all } k < m.Ty≥Tx⟺i=1∑k(yi−xi)≤0  for all k<m.

It restates dominance of yyy over xxx as "the cumulative mass of yyy on low strategies never exceeds that of xxx", which is the form condition (13) of Lemma A.2 needs.

Formalization Note Strategies are 0-based; the first kkk strategies are those with index below kkk (for k=0k = 0k=0 the sum is empty).

/-- Observation (14) (Hofbauer–Sandholm 2002, manuscript p. 28). For mixed strategies
`x, y ∈ ∆S` on `m` ordered strategies, `T y ≥ T x` (stochastic dominance of `y` over `x`) if and
only if `∑_{i=1}^{k} (y_i − x_i) ≤ 0` for every `k < m`. Strategies are 0-based, so the partial
sum over the first `k` strategies is the sum over `i.val < k` (the case `k = 0` is the empty sum
and holds trivially). -/

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
