This statement bounds the norm of an operator applied to a vector.

Let n be a natural number, let M be a continuous linear endomorphism of EuclideanSpace⁡ R (Fin⁡n)\operatorname{EuclideanSpace}\,\mathbb R\,(\operatorname{Fin} n)EuclideanSpaceR(Finn), and let x be a vector. Then

∥Mx∥2≤∥M∥HS2 ∥x∥2,\|Mx\|^2\leq\|M\|_{HS}^2\,\|x\|^2,∥Mx∥2≤∥M∥HS2∥x∥2,

where hsNormSq M is the squared Hilbert–Schmidt norm.

This is a standard finite-dimensional estimate useful for Lyapunov and cutoff bounds.

Formalization Note The statement uses the canonical Euclidean basis and includes all natural numbers n.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
