No nontrivial Syracuse cycle contains a value below 6725

collatznumber-theory

Let TTT be the Syracuse map, sending nnn to the odd part of 3n+13n+13n+1. If zzz is a positive integer with z≤6724z \le 6724z≤6724 and Ta(z)=zT^a(z) = zTa(z)=z for some a≥1a \ge 1a≥1, then z=1z = 1z=1.

The return time aaa is arbitrary — no minimality is assumed — so the statement says that the only Syracuse cycle meeting the interval [1,6724][1, 6724][1,6724] is the trivial cycle {1}\{1\}{1}.

It follows from the finite verification that every odd number below 672567256725 reaches 111, together with the observation that a periodic point of TTT whose orbit reaches 111 must itself be 111, since T(1)=1T(1) = 1T(1)=1 is absorbing. This raises the small-value threshold from the previously established bound of 119211921192, and is the input that lets the margin criterion exclude every cycle of period at most 199199199.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
