Let MMM be a countable-state controlled Markov process. Suppose 0<α<10<\alpha<10<α<1 and P(0∣i,a)≥αP(0\mid i,a)\ge\alphaP(0∣i,a)≥α for every admissible state-action pair. Then there is a controlled Markov process M~\widetilde MM with the same admissible actions and costs as MMM and with transition law

P~(j∣i,a)=P(j∣i,a)−α1{j=0}1−α.\widetilde P(j\mid i,a)=\frac{P(j\mid i,a)-\alpha\mathbf 1_{\{j=0\}}}{1-\alpha}.P(j∣i,a)=1−αP(j∣i,a)−α1{j=0}.

This establishes that the transition probabilities used in Theorem 5.6's reduction form a genuine stochastic law, while preserving the standing measurability and continuity conditions.

Formalization Note The paper states α>0\alpha>0α>0; its displayed transformation divides by 1−α1-\alpha1−α, so this item explicitly requires α<1\alpha<1α<1. The equation is imposed on admissible pairs only, the domain on which the paper defines the process.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
