Let AAA be a real Banach algebra (a complete normed ring that is a normed R\mathbb{R}R-algebra) and let τ:A→R\tau:A\to\mathbb{R}τ:A→R be a continuous R\mathbb{R}R-linear functional with the trace property τ(xy)=τ(yx)\tau(xy)=\tau(yx)τ(xy)=τ(yx) for all x,y∈Ax,y\in Ax,y∈A. Let a,z∈Aa,z\in Aa,z∈A and c∈Rc\in\mathbb{R}c∈R satisfy the normalization

c+τ(ea)=1.c+\tau(e^{a})=1 .c+τ(ea)=1.

Then, as t→0t\to0t→0,

log⁡(c+τ(ea+tz))−τ(eaz) t−12(τ[(∫01e(1−s)a z esa ds)z]−τ(eaz)2)t2=o(t2).\log\bigl(c+\tau(e^{a+tz})\bigr)-\tau(e^{a}z)\,t-\frac{1}{2}\Bigl(\tau\Bigl[\Bigl(\int_0^1e^{(1-s)a}\,z\,e^{sa}\,ds\Bigr)z\Bigr]-\tau(e^{a}z)^2\Bigr)t^2=o(t^2).log(c+τ(ea+tz))−τ(eaz)t−21(τ[(∫01e(1−s)azesads)z]−τ(eaz)2)t2=o(t2).

This is the second-order Taylor expansion of the (shifted) log-partition function t↦log⁡(c+τ(ea+tz))t\mapsto\log(c+\tau(e^{a+tz}))t↦log(c+τ(ea+tz)): the first derivative is the mean τ(eaz)\tau(e^az)τ(eaz) and the second derivative is the Duhamel (Kubo–Mori) second moment minus the squared mean, i.e. a variance. The constant ccc allows part of the normalization to come from a component of the state that is not perturbed.

Formalization Note o(t2)o(t^2)o(t2) is Mathlib's little-o (=o[𝓝 0]); exe^{x}ex is NormedSpace.exp and the integral is a Bochner interval integral in AAA. A local instance regards AAA as a normed Q\mathbb{Q}Q-algebra, needed for the exponential.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
