Let c,z,a,b∈R2c,z,a,b\in\mathbb R^2c,z,a,b∈R2 and let ρ>0\rho>0ρ>0 and xxx be real numbers. Assume that zzz, aaa and bbb lie in the closed annulus

ρ2(1−x)≤∣w−c∣2≤ρ2,\rho^2(1-x)\le |w-c|^2\le \rho^2 ,ρ2(1−x)≤∣w−c∣2≤ρ2,

that ∣a−b∣2>3ρ2|a-b|^2>3\rho^2∣a−b∣2>3ρ2, and that zzz is equidistant from aaa and bbb, that is ∣z−a∣=∣z−b∣|z-a|=|z-b|∣z−a∣=∣z−b∣. Then

ρ2(1−2x)<∣z−a∣2<3ρ2.\rho^2(1-2x)<|z-a|^2<3\rho^2 .ρ2(1−2x)<∣z−a∣2<3ρ2.

A pair of points of a thin annulus at distance more than 3 ρ\sqrt3\,\rho3ρ is therefore seen from every equidistant point of the annulus at a squared radius in the fixed window (ρ2(1−2x), 3ρ2)(\rho^2(1-2x),\,3\rho^2)(ρ2(1−2x),3ρ2). This places the apexes of far pairs in apex-counting arguments.

Formalization Note Points are elements of EuclideanSpace ℝ (Fin 2); the annulus bounds are stated for squared distances.
