Let XXX be a data universe and CCC a finite class of at least three predicates φ:X→{0,1}\varphi:X\to\{0,1\}φ:X→{0,1}, and let α>0\alpha>0α>0. For every (nonempty) database D∈X∗D\in X^*D∈X∗ there is a database D′∈X∗D'\in X^*D′∈X∗ of size

∣D′∣=⌈log⁡∣C∣α2⌉|D'|=\left\lceil\frac{\log|C|}{\alpha^2}\right\rceil∣D′∣=⌈α2log∣C∣⌉

such that ∣Qφ(D)−Qφ(D′)∣≤α|Q_\varphi(D)-Q_\varphi(D')|\le\alpha∣Qφ(D)−Qφ(D′)∣≤α for every φ∈C\varphi\in Cφ∈C.

The size does not depend on ∣D∣|D|∣D∣; this is what bounds the size of α-nets for finite classes (Theorem 3.6).

Formalization Note The paper's size log⁡∣C∣/α2\log|C|/\alpha^2log∣C∣/α2 must be an integer and is rounded up. The paper's proof needs ∣C∣>2|C|>2∣C∣>2 ("so long as ∣C∣>2|C|>2∣C∣>2"), which is the hypothesis ∣C∣≥3|C|\ge3∣C∣≥3; for ∣C∣=1|C|=1∣C∣=1 the size would be 000. Logarithms are natural.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
