integer-multiplication

Let L:N→RL:\mathbb N\to\mathbb RL:N→R satisfy L(n)≥1L(n)\ge1L(n)≥1 and let M:N→RM:\mathbb N\to\mathbb RM:N→R. Fix K≥0K\ge0K≥0, ρ<1\rho<1ρ<1 and n0n_0n0. Suppose that for every n≥max⁡(n0,1)n\ge\max(n_0,1)n≥max(n0,1) there are finitely many pairs (ci,mi)(c_i,m_i)(ci,mi) with ci≥0c_i\ge0ci≥0 and 1≤mi<n1\le m_i<n1≤mi<n such that

∑ici mi L(mi)≤ρ n L(n)andM(n)≤∑ici M(mi)+K n L(n).\sum_i c_i\,m_i\,L(m_i)\le\rho\,n\,L(n)\qquad\text{and}\qquad M(n)\le\sum_i c_i\,M(m_i)+K\,n\,L(n).i∑cimiL(mi)≤ρnL(n)andM(n)≤i∑ciM(mi)+KnL(n).

Then there is a constant C≥0C\ge0C≥0 with M(n)≤C n L(n)M(n)\le C\,n\,L(n)M(n)≤CnL(n) for all n≥1n\ge1n≥1.

With L=lg⁡L=\lgL=lg, this is the recursion-closing step of Harvey–van der Hoeven (§5). The recursive calls of the ddd-dimensional algorithm cost at most a fixed fraction ρ<1\rho<1ρ<1 of nlg⁡nn\lg nnlgn (there ρ≈1728/d\rho\approx 1728/dρ≈1728/d). All non-recursive work costs O(nlg⁡n)O(n\lg n)O(nlgn). Together these give M(n)=O(nlg⁡n)M(n)=O(n\lg n)M(n)=O(nlgn).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
