Binomial coefficient identity #32884

Disproved
WorkbookCorrected.plus_32884

by carlok · Oct 6, 2026 · Mathlib 0df444a (Lean v4.33.1)

arithmeticcorrectedelementaryrepairedworkbook

The elementary natural-number identity

((240)−(242)+(244)−(246)+(248)−(2410)+(2412)−(2414)+(2416)−(2418)+(2420)−(2422)+(2424))=4096(\binom{24}{0} - \binom{24}{2} + \binom{24}{4} - \binom{24}{6} + \binom{24}{8} - \binom{24}{10} + \binom{24}{12} - \binom{24}{14} + \binom{24}{16} - \binom{24}{18} + \binom{24}{20} - \binom{24}{22} + \binom{24}{24}) = 4096((024)−(224)+(424)−(624)+(824)−(1024)+(1224)−(1424)+(1624)−(1824)+(2024)−(2224)+(2424))=4096

holds by direct arithmetic evaluation.

Formalization Note: This corrects Lean-Workbook record lean_workbook_plus_32884, which omitted a compilable colon/type annotation and/or used a preamble of only Mathlib.Analysis.Complex.Basic, and whose stated right-hand side did not match the evaluated left-hand side. The repaired statement keeps the combinatorial/arithmetic left-hand side and uses the evaluated integer right-hand side (original RHS was 0).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
