integer-multiplication

Let n,P≥1n,P\ge1n,P≥1 and let u,v∈Znu,v\in\mathbb Z^nu,v∈Zn have entries of absolute value at most MMM, where 4nM2<2P4nM^2<2^P4nM2<2P. Put B=2PB=2^PB=2P and F=Bn+1F=B^n+1F=Bn+1. The algorithm fermatNegaMul evaluates u,vu,vu,v at y=By=By=B (so yn≡−1(modF)y^n\equiv-1\pmod Fyn≡−1(modF)). It reduces both values modulo FFF, multiplies them modulo FFF, takes the balanced residue in (−F/2,F/2](-F/2,F/2](−F/2,F/2], and reads off nnn balanced base-BBB digits. It returns exactly the coefficients of the product in Z[y]/(yn+1)\mathbb Z[y]/(y^n+1)Z[y]/(yn+1):

wk=∑i≤kuivk−i−∑k<i<nuivk+n−i(0≤k<n).w_k=\sum_{i\le k}u_iv_{k-i}-\sum_{k<i<n}u_iv_{k+n-i}\qquad(0\le k<n).wk=i≤k∑uivk−i−k<i<n∑uivk+n−i(0≤k<n).

So a negacyclic polynomial product costs one multiplication modulo the Fermat-type number 2nP+12^{nP}+12nP+1. This replaces the Kronecker step of Lemma 2.5 of Harvey–van der Hoeven when the pointwise products are done exactly.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
