matrix-multiplication

This is the bookkeeping rule for one stage of a graded logarithmic joint recipe.

Let P,QP,QP,Q be predicates on words of length NNN, and let ℓ′<ℓ\ell'<\ellℓ′<ℓ be levels. Suppose we are given the data of a stage from level ℓ\ellℓ to level ℓ′\ell'ℓ′: a partition of the NNN positions into parts j∈Fin pj\in\mathrm{Fin}\,pj∈Finp of sizes sjs_jsj (an equivalence π:⨆jFin sj≃Fin N\pi:\bigsqcup_j \mathrm{Fin}\,s_j\simeq \mathrm{Fin}\,Nπ:⨆jFinsj≃FinN), part predicates Sj,TjS_j,T_jSj,Tj on words of length sjs_jsj such that the parts' sources SjS_jSj jointly imply PPP and QQQ implies all targets TjT_jTj, part stages DjD_jDj from SjS_jSj to TjT_jTj at level ℓ′\ell'ℓ′, and a continuation recipe R′R'R′ of level ℓ′\ell'ℓ′ with source QQQ. Let X,Y∈NX,Y\in\mathbb NX,Y∈N and α,β∈R\alpha,\beta\in\mathbb Rα,β∈R.

Claim. If 1≤types(Dj)≤X1\le \mathrm{types}(D_j)\le X1≤types(Dj)≤X for all jjj, 1≤inputs(R′)≤Y1\le\mathrm{inputs}(R')\le Y1≤inputs(R′)≤Y, α≤∑jrate(Dj)\alpha\le\sum_j\mathrm{rate}(D_j)α≤∑jrate(Dj) and β≤logOutputs(R′)\beta\le\mathrm{logOutputs}(R')β≤logOutputs(R′), then there is a graded joint recipe RRR of level ℓ\ellℓ with source PPP such that

1≤inputs(R)≤Xp Y,α+β≤logOutputs(R),(R.a,R.b,R.c)=(R′.a,R′.b,R′.c).1\le \mathrm{inputs}(R)\le X^{p}\,Y,\qquad \alpha+\beta\le \mathrm{logOutputs}(R),\qquad (R.a,R.b,R.c)=(R'.a,R'.b,R'.c).1≤inputs(R)≤XpY,α+β≤logOutputs(R),(R.a,R.b,R.c)=(R′.a,R′.b,R′.c).

Role. This is the composition step used whenever a recipe starts with a stage: the stage contributes its summed rate and multiplies the input count by the product of its type counts, and all dimensions come from the continuation. It is used for the level-3 to level-2 stage of the hashed construction (six parts), and applies equally to the later level-2 to level-1 stage.

Formalization Note. RRR is LogJointRecipeG.stage applied to the given data; the statement is about LogJointRecipeG.inputs, .logOutputs, .a, .b, .c.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
