Let K4=C(x)[Y]/(Y4−(2−x4))K_4=\mathbb C(x)[Y]/(Y^4-(2-x^4))K4=C(x)[Y]/(Y4−(2−x4)), with yyy the class of YYY, so that x4+y4=2x^4+y^4=2x4+y4=2. This is the function field of the quartic X4+Y4=2X^4+Y^4=2X4+Y4=2, written as the cover y4=2−x4y^4=2-x^4y4=2−x4 of the xxx-line; in the coordinates X=zX=zX=z, Y=zˉY=\bar zY=zˉ the real locus of that quartic is the curve Re⁡(z4)=1\operatorname{Re}(z^4)=1Re(z4)=1 of Remark 5. Let ΩK4/C\Omega_{K_4/\mathbb C}ΩK4/C be the module of Kähler differentials of K4K_4K4, with universal derivation ddd.

A valuation ring of K4K_4K4 is a subring O⊆K4\mathcal O\subseteq K_4O⊆K4 with ξ∈O\xi\in\mathcal Oξ∈O or ξ−1∈O\xi^{-1}\in\mathcal Oξ−1∈O for every nonzero ξ∈K4\xi\in K_4ξ∈K4, and a place of K4K_4K4 is a valuation ring O≠K4\mathcal O\ne K_4O=K4 containing C\mathbb CC. A differential is regular at O\mathcal OO if it is a C\mathbb CC-linear combination of differentials a dba\,dbadb with a,b∈Oa,b\in\mathcal Oa,b∈O, and H(K4)⊆ΩK4/CH(K_4)\subseteq\Omega_{K_4/\mathbb C}H(K4)⊆ΩK4/C is the space of holomorphic differentials, those regular at every place of K4K_4K4.

Then each of the three differentials

dxy3,x dxy3,y dxy3=dxy2\frac{dx}{y^3},\qquad \frac{x\,dx}{y^3},\qquad \frac{y\,dx}{y^3}=\frac{dx}{y^2}y3dx,y3xdx,y3ydx=y2dx

belongs to H(K4)H(K_4)H(K4), that is, is regular at every place of K4K_4K4.

With their linear independence, this shows that H(K4)H(K_4)H(K4) has dimension at least three: this is the lower bound behind the genus three of Re⁡(z4)=1\operatorname{Re}(z^4)=1Re(z4)=1 in Remark 5, which separates it from the m=2m=2m=2 family, of genus two.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
