Let A~x≥b~\tilde Ax\ge\tilde bA~x≥b~ be the LP relaxation of a mixed 0-1 program with 0-1 variables N′N'N′ (containing the rows xj≥0x_j\ge 0xj≥0 and −xj≥−1-x_j\ge-1−xj≥−1, j∈N′j\in N'j∈N′), and consider the disjunction −xk≥0∨xk≥1-x_k\ge 0\vee x_k\ge 1−xk≥0∨xk≥1. Theorems 8.4A and 8.4B remain valid if the lift-and-project cut αx≥β\alpha x\ge\betaαx≥β is replaced by the strengthened lift-and-project cut γx≥β\gamma x\ge\betaγx≥β of Theorem 6.4 and the simple disjunctive cut πJsxJ≥π0\pi^s_Jx_J\ge\pi_0πJsxJ≥π0 by the mixed integer Gomory cut πˉJsxJ≥π0\bar\pi^s_Jx_J\ge\pi_0πˉJsxJ≥π0 of (8.10), where

πˉj={min⁡{fkj(1−aˉk0), (1−fkj)aˉk0},j∈J∩N′,πj,j∈J∖N′,\bar\pi_j=\begin{cases}\min\{f_{kj}(1-\bar a_{k0}),\,(1-f_{kj})\bar a_{k0}\}, & j\in J\cap N',\\ \pi_j, & j\in J\setminus N',\end{cases}πˉj={min{fkj(1−aˉk0),(1−fkj)aˉk0},πj,j∈J∩N′,j∈J∖N′,

fkjf_{kj}fkj the fractional part of aˉkj\bar a_{kj}aˉkj. That is:

(A) if (α,β,u,u0,v,v0)(\alpha,\beta,u,u_0,v,v_0)(α,β,u,u0,v,v0) is a basic solution of (CGLP)k(CGLP)_k(CGLP)k with u0,v0>0u_0,v_0>0u0,v0>0 and basic uuu/vvv-components indexed by M1,M2M_1,M_2M1,M2, and J=M1∪M2J=M_1\cup M_2J=M1∪M2, then {x:γx≥β}={x:πˉsJ(x)≥π0}\{x:\gamma x\ge\beta\}=\{x:\bar\pi s_J(x)\ge\pi_0\}{x:γx≥β}={x:πˉsJ(x)≥π0}, sJ(x)=A^x−b^s_J(x)=\hat Ax-\hat bsJ(x)=A^x−b^;

(B) conversely, if A^=A~J\hat A=\tilde A_JA^=A~J is nonsingular with 0<aˉk0<10<\bar a_{k0}<10<aˉk0<1 and (M1,M2)(M_1,M_2)(M1,M2) partitions JJJ with j∈M1j\in M_1j∈M1 when πj1<πj2\pi^1_j<\pi^2_jπj1<πj2 and j∈M2j\in M_2j∈M2 when πj1>πj2\pi^1_j>\pi^2_jπj1>πj2, then there is a basic solution of (CGLP)k(CGLP)_k(CGLP)k with u0,v0>0u_0,v_0>0u0,v0>0 and basic components indexed by M1,M2M_1,M_2M1,M2 whose strengthened cut γx≥β\gamma x\ge\betaγx≥β equals the mixed integer Gomory cut from that tableau.

Formalization Note. The retired version used N′N'N′ as a set of row positions in πˉ\bar\piπˉ, strengthening arbitrary (continuous) surplus variables, and its γ\gammaγ included the multipliers of x≥0x\ge 0x≥0 in uA~j,vA~ju\tilde A_j,v\tilde A_juA~j,vA~j, which makes γ=α\gamma=\alphaγ=α for every feasible point. Here: j∈J∩N′j\in J\cap N'j∈J∩N′ means the nonbasic row is the bound xl≥0x_l\ge 0xl≥0 of some l∈N′l\in N'l∈N′ (the book's identification of that row with xlx_lxl); γ\gammaγ uses αj1=uA~j\alpha^1_j=u\tilde A_jαj1=uA~j, αj2=vA~j\alpha^2_j=v\tilde A_jαj2=vA~j over the rows other than xj≥0x_j\ge 0xj≥0; M1,M2M_1,M_2M1,M2 are the index sets of a basis; part (B), the strengthened form of Theorem 8.4B, is included; and the standing assumption on A~x≥b~\tilde Ax\ge\tilde bA~x≥b~ is explicit. Both cuts are compared as halfspaces of xxx-space via the surplus substitution sJ(x)=A^x−b^s_J(x)=\hat Ax-\hat bsJ(x)=A^x−b^.

/-- Theorem 8.5 (Balas, *Disjunctive Programming*, §8.2, p. 103): Theorems 8.4A and 8.4B remain
valid if the lift-and-project cut `αx ≥ β` is replaced by the strengthened lift-and-project cut
`γx ≥ β` of Theorem 6.4 and the simple disjunctive cut `π^s_J x_J ≥ π0` by the mixed integer
Gomory cut `π̄^s_J x_J ≥ π0` of eq. (8.10).

(A) [8.4A strengthened] For a basic solution of `(CGLP)_k` with `u0, v0 > 0` whose basic
`u`/`v`-components are indexed by `M1`/`M2`, and any enumeration `ι` of `J := M1 ∪ M2`, the
halfspace `γx ≥ β` equals the MIG cut from the tableau row of `x_k` with nonbasic set `J`.

(B) [8.4B strengthened] Conversely, for every nonsingular `Â = Ã_J` (enumerated by `ι`) with
`0 < ā_k0 < 1` and every partition `(M1, M2)` of `J` putting `j` into `M1` when `π¹_j < π²_j` and
into `M2` when `π¹_j > π²_j`, there is a basic solution of `(CGLP)_k` with `u0, v0 > 0` and basic
`u`/`v`-components indexed by `M1`/`M2` whose strengthened cut `γx ≥ β` equals that MIG cut.

Corrected from the retired version: (i) `PiBar` now strengthens exactly the nonbasic positions
whose row is the bound `x_j ≥ 0` of a 0-1 variable `j ∈ N'` ("`j ∈ J ∩ N'`"), not the row
positions numbered by `N'`; (ii) `Gamma` removes the multipliers of the rows `x_j ≥ 0` from
`uÃ_j, vÃ_j` as Theorem 6.4 requires (the retired `Gamma` coincided with `α` at every feasible
point); (iii) `M1, M2` are the index sets of a basis (`IsCGLPKBasis`); (iv) the converse part
(B) of Theorem 8.5 is included; (v) the standing assumption that `Ãx ≥ b̃` contains `x ≥ 0` and
`x_j ≤ 1` (`j ∈ N'`) is explicit. -/
