gaussianinvariant-measureornstein-uhlenbecksemigroup

Let γ=N(0,1)\gamma=N(0,1)γ=N(0,1) be the standard Gaussian measure on R\mathbb{R}R, let t≥0t\ge0t≥0, and let h:R→Rh:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}h:R→R be γ\gammaγ-integrable. Then

∫ ⁣ ⁣∫h(e−tx+1−e−2t y) dγ(y) dγ(x)  =  ∫h dγ,\int\!\!\int h\big(e^{-t}x+\sqrt{1-e^{-2t}}\,y\big)\,d\gamma(y)\,d\gamma(x)\;=\;\int h\,d\gamma ,∫∫h(e−tx+1−e−2ty)dγ(y)dγ(x)=∫hdγ,

that is, ∫Pth dγ=∫h dγ\int P_th\,d\gamma=\int h\,d\gamma∫Pthdγ=∫hdγ for the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck semigroup PtP_tPt.

This expresses the invariance of γ\gammaγ under PtP_tPt. Equivalently, for independent standard Gaussians X,YX,YX,Y and a2+b2=1a^2+b^2=1a2+b2=1, the variable aX+bYaX+bYaX+bY is standard Gaussian. It is used to bound the integrated Fisher information of PtfP_tfPtf by e−2te^{-2t}e−2t times that of fff.

Formalization Note. The hypothesis t≥0t\ge0t≥0 is needed: for t<0t<0t<0 Lean's Real.sqrt of the negative number 1−e−2t1-e^{-2t}1−e−2t is 000, and the statement fails.

Standard fact: if X,YX,YX,Y are independent N(0,1)N(0,1)N(0,1) random variables and a2+b2=1a^2+b^2=1a2+b2=1 then aX+bY∼N(0,1)aX+bY\sim N(0,1)aX+bY∼N(0,1); hence γ\gammaγ is invariant for the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck semigroup. About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
