Every bounded set SSS in mmm-dimensional Euclidean space lies in an mmm-dimensional closed simplex: there are affinely independent vertices v0,…,vmv_0,\ldots,v_mv0,…,vm such that

S⊆conv⁡{v0,…,vm}.S\subseteq\operatorname{conv}\{v_0,\ldots,v_m\}.S⊆conv{v0,…,vm}.

This supplies the larger simplex S′S'S′ used in the proof of Kakutani's Corollary. The assertion also applies to the empty set.

Formalization Note The simplex is represented as the convex hull of a finite range, with affine independence imposing full dimension.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
