Let m,k≥1m, k \ge 1m,k≥1 be integers with m∣km \mid km∣k. Then there is an embedding of Q\mathbb{Q}Q-algebras

Q(ζm)↪Q(ζk).\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_m) \hookrightarrow \mathbb{Q}(\zeta_k).Q(ζm)↪Q(ζk).

Indeed, if ζ\zetaζ is a primitive kkk-th root of unity in Q(ζk)\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_k)Q(ζk), then ζk/m\zeta^{k/m}ζk/m is a primitive mmm-th root of unity, so the mmm-th cyclotomic polynomial splits in Q(ζk)\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_k)Q(ζk), and Q(ζm)\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_m)Q(ζm), being its splitting field, embeds.

Formalization note. Q(ζn)\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_n)Q(ζn) is Mathlib's CyclotomicField n ℚ (the splitting field of the nnn-th cyclotomic polynomial over Q\mathbb{Q}Q).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
