Let g1,…,gag_1,\ldots,g_ag1,…,ga generate an Abelian subgroup SSS of the nnn-qubit Pauli group. Assume that −I∉S-I\notin S−I∈/S and that ∣S∣=2a|S|=2^a∣S∣=2a.

There are Pauli strings P1,…,PaP_1,\ldots,P_aP1,…,Pa, including their overall phases, whose matrices are the given generators. Write xi,zi∈F2nx_i,z_i\in\mathbb F_2^nxi,zi∈F2n for their binary labels: the XXX label is one at an XXX or YYY factor, and the ZZZ label is one at a ZZZ or YYY factor. Then

{(x1∣z1),…,(xa∣za)} is linearly independent over F2.\{(x_1\mid z_1),\ldots,(x_a\mid z_a)\}\text{ is linearly independent over }\mathbb F_2.{(x1∣z1),…,(xa∣za)} is linearly independent over F2.

This is the independence step in the proof that every stabilizer error syndrome is realized by a Pauli error. It supplies the full row rank needed to solve the symplectic syndrome equations.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
