Let RRR be a commutative ring and AAA a commutative local RRR-algebra with maximal ideal m\mathfrak mm, such that the module of Kähler differentials ΩA/R\Omega_{A/R}ΩA/R is finitely generated over AAA; let d ⁣:A→ΩA/Rd\colon A\to\Omega_{A/R}d:A→ΩA/R be the universal derivation. Assume that every element of AAA is congruent modulo m\mathfrak mm to the image of an element of RRR, that is, R→A/mR\to A/\mathfrak mR→A/m is surjective. If u,u′∈Au,u'\in Au,u′∈A both generate m\mathfrak mm, that is, m=(u)=(u′)\mathfrak m=(u)=(u')m=(u)=(u′), then

A du=A du′in ΩA/R.A\,du=A\,du'\qquad\text{in }\Omega_{A/R}.Adu=Adu′in ΩA/R.

At a place of a function field, the order of a differential is measured against dududu for a uniformizer uuu; this statement shows that the submodule generated by dududu does not depend on that choice. It is applied to the local rings at the places of the double cover (7), toward the genus in Lemma 4.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
