For every nnn and all q1,…,qn∈(0,1)q_1,\dots,q_n\in(0,1)q1,…,qn∈(0,1), the function

f(q1,…,qn)=1∏i=1nqi+1∏i=1n(1−qi)f(q_1,\dots,q_n)=\frac1{\prod_{i=1}^n q_i}+\frac1{\prod_{i=1}^n(1-q_i)}f(q1,…,qn)=∏i=1nqi1+∏i=1n(1−qi)1

satisfies

f(q1,…,qn)≥2n+1,f(q_1,\dots,q_n)\ge 2^{n+1},f(q1,…,qn)≥2n+1,

and equality holds if and only if q1=⋯=qn=1/2q_1=\dots=q_n=1/2q1=⋯=qn=1/2.

This inequality is what makes fair coins optimal in Theorem 1: at the extreme outcomes every term of the risk has the form f(⋅) B2f(\cdot)\,B^2f(⋅)B2.

Formalization Note The page's n∈Nn\in\mathbb Nn∈N means n≥1n\ge1n≥1 (p. ec1). The statement also holds at n=0n=0n=0 (both sides equal 222, and the equality condition is vacuous), so the restriction is dropped; this is a strengthening.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
