Let R:Rk×Rm→RmR:\mathbb R^k\times\mathbb R^m\to\mathbb R^mR:Rk×Rm→Rm be an RNN update map, and pad an input sequence zzz on the left with d≥1d\ge1d≥1 zero vectors to obtain zˉ\bar zzˉ. If the common seed h0h_0h0 of both runs is a fixed point of the zero-input update, R(0,h0)=h0R(0,h_0)=h_0R(0,h0)=h0, then

hzˉ(⋅+1)(t)=hzˉ(t+1)for every t≥0.h_{\bar z(\cdot+1)}(t)=h_{\bar z}(t+1)\qquad\text{for every }t\ge0.hzˉ(⋅+1)(t)=hzˉ(t+1)for every t≥0.

This is the boundary condition under which an RNN commutes with a one-step left shift of a padded input.

Formalization Note The claim includes t=0t=0t=0. The book's z(1)z(1)z(1) is Lean's input at index 111, with z(0)z(0)z(0) unused.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
