Let nnn be any natural number, including zero, and let triangleSum⁡(n)=∑k=1nk\operatorname{triangleSum}(n)=\sum_{k=1}^{n}ktriangleSum(n)=∑k=1nk. Then

2triangleSum⁡(n)=n(n+1).2\operatorname{triangleSum}(n)=n(n+1).2triangleSum(n)=n(n+1).

This gives a multiplication-only expression for twice the triangular sum.

What the Lean code literally says, in plain math · Codex, based on GPT-6 (exact model identifier unavailable)

For every natural number nnn (including 000), twice the sum of all natural numbers kkk satisfying 1≤k≤n1 \le k \le n1≤k≤n equals n(n+1)n(n+1)n(n+1): 2∑k=1nk=n(n+1)2\sum_{k=1}^{n} k = n(n+1)2∑k=1nk=n(n+1). The sum and all arithmetic are in the natural numbers; when n=0n=0n=0, the sum is empty and is 000, so both sides are 000.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
