Let an exchange economy satisfy the assumptions of §4 and let xˉ∈X(N)\bar x \in X(N)xˉ∈X(N) be an allocation. For each consumer iii define

Q(i)=Y(i)−{xi∈R+l:xi≻ixˉi},Q(i) = Y(i) - \{x^i \in \mathbb{R}^l_+ : x^i \succ_i \bar x^i\},Q(i)=Y(i)−{xi∈R+l:xi≻ixˉi},

the Minkowski difference of the endowment set and the set of bundles consumer iii strictly prefers to xˉi\bar x^ixˉi. Then every Q(i)Q(i)Q(i) is nonempty.

The paper attributes this to the insatiability assumption (together with the nonemptiness of Y(i)Y(i)Y(i), which positive endowment gives). The sets Q(i)Q(i)Q(i) are the ones separated from the origin in the proof of Theorem 4.1.

Formalization Note. xˉ∈X(N)\bar x \in X(N)xˉ∈X(N) gives xˉi∈R+l\bar x^i \in \mathbb{R}^l_+xˉi∈R+l for every iii, which is where non-satiation applies.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
