Let h∈C[t]h\in\mathbb C[t]h∈C[t] be a squarefree polynomial such that W2−hW^2-hW2−h is irreducible in C(t)[W]\mathbb C(t)[W]C(t)[W]. Let K=C(t)[W]/(W2−h)K=\mathbb C(t)[W]/(W^2-h)K=C(t)[W]/(W2−h) be the function field of the double cover w2=h(t)w^2=h(t)w2=h(t), where ttt and www denote the classes of ttt and WWW, and let A=C[t][W]/(W2−h)A=\mathbb C[t][W]/(W^2-h)A=C[t][W]/(W2−h) be its coordinate ring, viewed inside KKK. For a point (c,d)∈C2(c,d)\in\mathbb C^2(c,d)∈C2 of the cover, d2=h(c)d^2=h(c)d2=h(c), let m(c,d)⊂A\mathfrak m_{(c,d)}\subset Am(c,d)⊂A be the kernel of the evaluation A→CA\to\mathbb CA→C, t↦ct\mapsto ct↦c, w↦dw\mapsto dw↦d, and let O(c,d)=Am(c,d)⊂K\mathcal O_{(c,d)}=A_{\mathfrak m_{(c,d)}}\subset KO(c,d)=Am(c,d)⊂K be the local ring at (c,d)(c,d)(c,d), the valuation ring of the point place (c,d)(c,d)(c,d) of KKK; it is a discrete valuation ring with maximal ideal m(c,d)O(c,d)\mathfrak m_{(c,d)}\mathcal O_{(c,d)}m(c,d)O(c,d). A uniformizer is an element of O(c,d)\mathcal O_{(c,d)}O(c,d) generating this maximal ideal.

Write ΩK/C\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ΩK/C for the KKK-vector space of Kähler differentials of KKK over C\mathbb CC and dxdxdx for the differential of x∈Kx\in Kx∈K. A differential ω∈ΩK/C\omega\in\Omega_{K/\mathbb C}ω∈ΩK/C is regular at (c,d)(c,d)(c,d) if for every uniformizer uuu of O(c,d)\mathcal O_{(c,d)}O(c,d) and every g∈Kg\in Kg∈K with ω=g du\omega=g\,duω=gdu one has g∈O(c,d)g\in\mathcal O_{(c,d)}g∈O(c,d).

Let (c,d)∈C2(c,d)\in\mathbb C^2(c,d)∈C2 with d2=h(c)d^2=h(c)d2=h(c) and h(c)=0h(c)=0h(c)=0, and let f∈Kf\in Kf∈K. Then

f dt is regular at (c,d)  ⟺  f w∈O(c,d).f\,dt\text{ is regular at }(c,d)\iff f\,w\in\mathcal O_{(c,d)}.fdt is regular at (c,d)⟺fw∈O(c,d).

This is the regularity criterion at the ramified point places; since www is a uniformizer there, fff may have at most a simple pole. Applied to hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+α‾)h_\alpha(t)=-t(t^m+1)(\alpha t^m+\overline\alpha)hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+α), together with the criteria at the unramified point places and at the place over t=∞t=\inftyt=∞, it determines which differentials f dtf\,dtfdt of the function field of w2=hα(t)w^2=h_\alpha(t)w2=hα(t) are regular at every place; the formalization obtains from this the basis ti dt/wt^i\,dt/wtidt/w, 0≤i<m0\le i<m0≤i<m, of these differentials, hence the genus clause of Lemma 4 of the note (genus mmm for the normalization of VαV_\alphaVα), which is used for m=2m=2m=2 in Remark 5.

Formalization Note: the hypotheses that hhh is squarefree and that W2−hW^2-hW2−h is irreducible are Fact instances, and d2=h(c)d^2=h(c)d2=h(c) is an explicit hypothesis. O(c,d)\mathcal O_{(c,d)}O(c,d) is a subalgebra of KKK: the localization of AAA at the kernel of the evaluation map.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
