This is Proposition 12.1 of Balas's Disjunctive Programming, opening Chapter 12.

Let QQQ be a finite index set and, for each h∈Qh\in Qh∈Q, let Ph:=conv Vh+cone RhP^h := \mathrm{conv}\,V^h + \mathrm{cone}\,R^hPh:=convVh+coneRh with finite, nonempty vertex set VhV^hVh and finite ray set RhR^hRh; let F:=⋃h∈QPhF := \bigcup_{h\in Q}P^hF:=⋃h∈QPh. Then the inequality αx≥β\alpha x \ge \betaαx≥β is valid for FFF if and only if αp≥β\alpha p \ge \betaαp≥β for every p∈Vhp\in V^hp∈Vh and αr≥0\alpha r\ge 0αr≥0 for every r∈Rhr \in R^hr∈Rh, for every h∈Qh\in Qh∈Q.

Formalization Note. The retired version allowed a disjunct with no vertices. Then Ph=∅P^h=\emptysetPh=∅ while its rays still constrained α\alphaα, which makes the equivalence false. The book's disjuncts are nonempty polyhedra, so every VhV^hVh is nonempty; this is now the instance hypothesis [∀ h, Nonempty (Vidx h)]. The finiteness of QQQ ([Fintype Q]) is the book's convention. The vertices and rays are given as finite indexed families vpt h, rvec h.

/-- Proposition 12.1 (Balas, *Disjunctive Programming*, Springer 2018, §12, p. 195): for the
V-polyhedral disjunctive set `F := ⋃_{h∈Q} P^h`, `P^h = conv V^h + cone R^h`, over a finite index
set `Q` whose disjuncts are all nonempty (every `V^h ≠ ∅`), the inequality `αx ≥ β` is valid for
`F` if and only if `αp ≥ β` for every `p ∈ V^h` and `αr ≥ 0` for every `r ∈ R^h`, `h ∈ Q`.

Correction w.r.t. the retired version: the book's standing assumption that every disjunct
`P^h` is nonempty (has at least one vertex) is now the instance hypothesis
`[∀ h, Nonempty (Vidx h)]`; with `V^h = ∅` the set `P^h` is empty while its rays still
constrain `α`. -/

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
