Let VVV be a finite set covered by finite subsets FiF_iFi with nonnegative integer weights wiw_iwi, so every element receives covering weight at least q>0q>0q>0. Let BiB_iBi be nonnegative integers. If the averaging certificate

⌊∑iwi(Bi+1)q⌋−1\left\lfloor\frac{\sum_i w_i(B_i+1)}q\right\rfloor-1⌊q∑iwi(Bi+1)⌋−1

is strictly less than ∣V∣−1|V|-1∣V∣−1, then some positively weighted subset satisfies Bi+1<∣Fi∣B_i+1<|F_i|Bi+1<∣Fi∣. Division and subtraction are the natural-number operations. This is a finite counting theorem: it bounds what an averaging certificate can achieve, not an actual polytope diameter. No geometric or graph assumption is implicit.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
