This formalizes a partial auxiliary statement related to Theorem 2.5 of Letwin (arXiv:2607.24164v1).

Let u,χ:EuclideanSpace⁡ R (Fin⁡(n))→Ru,\chi:\operatorname{EuclideanSpace}\,\mathbb R\,(\operatorname{Fin}(n))\to\mathbb Ru,χ:EuclideanSpaceR(Fin(n))→R be continuous, assume that χ\chiχ has compact support, and fix vvv in the Euclidean space. Then there exists a function η\etaη such that:

  1. η\etaη is C∞C^\inftyC∞ and compactly supported;
  2. η(x)≥0\eta(x)\ge0η(x)≥0 for every xxx;
  3. for every t∈Rt\in\mathbb Rt∈R with ∣t∣≤1|t|\le1∣t∣≤1 and every xxx,
χ(x+tv)2eu(x)≤η(x).\chi(x+tv)^2e^{u(x)}\le\eta(x).χ(x+tv)2eu(x)≤η(x).

This supplies a single smooth compactly supported majorant for all small translates of the cutoff. It does not assert any Hessian-energy estimate.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
