Taking a positive common power preserves the rank of finite-index generators

Suppose a finite family uiu_iui generates a subgroup of finite index in a commutative group GGG. For every positive integer nnn, the family uinu_i^nuin still generates a subgroup of finite index in GGG. This permits replacing global units by common positive powers, for example to put their local components in the convergence ball of the ppp-adic logarithm, while retaining full unit rank.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
