There is m0m_0m0 such that for every m≥m0m\ge m_0m≥m0, every number nnn of bidders and every LP-feasible xxx, the randomized-rounding preallocation σ=(S1,…,Sn)\sigma=(S_1,\dots,S_n)σ=(S1,…,Sn) satisfies:

  1. for each item jjj,
Pr⁡[j appears in more than 3log⁡mlog⁡log⁡m of the bundles S1,…,Sn]≤1m2;\Pr\Big[j \text{ appears in more than } \tfrac{3\log m}{\log\log m} \text{ of the bundles } S_1,\dots,S_n\Big]\le\frac1{m^2};Pr[j appears in more than loglogm3logm of the bundles S1,…,Sn]≤m21;
  1. by the union bound over the mmm items,
Pr⁡[some item appears in more than 3log⁡mlog⁡log⁡m bundles]≤1m.\Pr\Big[\text{some item appears in more than } \tfrac{3\log m}{\log\log m} \text{ bundles}\Big]\le\frac1{m}.Pr[some item appears in more than loglogm3logm bundles]≤m1.

This is the first half of the analysis of step (i) of the algorithm in §3.1.1: with high probability the preallocation violates each item constraint by at most a factor kkk.

Formalization Note The paper's display after Lemma 3.1 prints the threshold as log⁡m/(3log⁡log⁡m)\log m/(3\log\log m)logm/(3loglogm), a slip for the lemma's 3log⁡m/log⁡log⁡m3\log m/\log\log m3logm/loglogm (with the smaller threshold the 1/m21/m^21/m2 bound fails); the statement uses 3log⁡m/log⁡log⁡m3\log m/\log\log m3logm/loglogm. The probability is the finite-sum rounding probability of the LP definition file; log⁡\loglog is the natural logarithm; m0m_0m0 is existential because Lemma 3.1 holds for sufficiently large mmm.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
