Let m≥1m\ge1m≥1 be an integer and α∈C\alpha\in\mathbb Cα∈C with α≠α‾\alpha\ne\overline\alphaα=α, and put hα‾(s)=−s(sm+1)(α‾sm+α)∈C[s]h_{\overline\alpha}(s)=-s(s^m+1)(\overline\alpha s^m+\alpha)\in\mathbb C[s]hα(s)=−s(sm+1)(αsm+α)∈C[s], with derivative hα‾′h_{\overline\alpha}'hα′. Let Aα‾=C[s][W]/(W2−hα‾)A_{\overline\alpha}=\mathbb C[s][W]/(W^2-h_{\overline\alpha})Aα=C[s][W]/(W2−hα) be the coordinate ring of the conjugate cover w′2=hα‾(s){w'}^2=h_{\overline\alpha}(s)w′2=hα(s), where sss and w′w'w′ denote the classes of sss and WWW, and let Kα‾K_{\overline\alpha}Kα be its fraction field. The point (0,0)(0,0)(0,0) lies on this cover since hα‾(0)=0h_{\overline\alpha}(0)=0hα(0)=0; let m(0,0)′⊂Aα‾\mathfrak m'_{(0,0)}\subset A_{\overline\alpha}m(0,0)′⊂Aα be the kernel of the evaluation s↦0s\mapsto0s↦0, w′↦0w'\mapsto0w′↦0, and let O(0,0)′⊂Kα‾\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}\subset K_{\overline\alpha}O(0,0)′⊂Kα be the localization of Aα‾A_{\overline\alpha}Aα at it, a discrete valuation ring.

Then:

  1. w′w'w′ is a uniformizer of O(0,0)′\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}O(0,0)′:
m(0,0)′O(0,0)′=w′ O(0,0)′;\mathfrak m'_{(0,0)}\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}=w'\,\mathcal O'_{(0,0)};m(0,0)′O(0,0)′=w′O(0,0)′;
  1. hα‾′(s)h_{\overline\alpha}'(s)hα′(s) is a unit of O(0,0)′\mathcal O'_{(0,0)}O(0,0)′;
  2. there is a polynomial k∈C[s]k\in\mathbb C[s]k∈C[s] with k(0)≠0k(0)\ne0k(0)=0 such that s k(s)=w′2s\,k(s)={w'}^2sk(s)=w′2 in Aα‾A_{\overline\alpha}Aα.

The chart s=1/ts=1/ts=1/t, w′=w sm+1w'=w\,s^{m+1}w′=wsm+1 identifies the place over t=∞t=\inftyt=∞ of the function field of w2=hα(t)w^2=h_\alpha(t)w2=hα(t), hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+α‾)h_\alpha(t)=-t(t^m+1)(\alpha t^m+\overline\alpha)hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+α), with this point place of the conjugate cover; the statement records that it is a ramified point, where sss is w′2{w'}^2w′2 times a unit. It belongs to the local study of differentials that the formalization carries out for the genus clause of Lemma 4 of the note (the normalization of VαV_\alphaVα has genus mmm).

Formalization Note: the hypotheses m≥1m\ge1m≥1 and α≠α‾\alpha\ne\overline\alphaα=α are Fact instances; the condition ∣α∣=1|\alpha|=1∣α∣=1 of the note is not assumed.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
