Let DDD be a probability distribution on Z=X×YZ = X \times YZ=X×Y, let the cost satisfy 0≤c(y′,y)≤M0 \le c(y', y) \le M0≤c(y′,y)≤M, and let AAA be a symmetric deterministic learning algorithm whose losses are measurable. Let S=(z1,…,zm)∼DmS = (z_1, \dots, z_m) \sim D^mS=(z1,…,zm)∼Dm with m≥2m \ge 2m≥2, let zi′∼Dz'_i \sim Dzi′∼D be independent of SSS, and let SiS^iSi be SSS with ziz_izi replaced by zi′z'_izi′. Then for every index iii,

ES[(R(A,S)−Remp(A,S))2]≤M22m+3M ES,zi′[ ∣ℓ(AS,zi)−ℓ(ASi,zi)∣ ].\mathbb E_S\bigl[(R(A,S) - R_{\mathrm{emp}}(A,S))^2\bigr] \le \frac{M^2}{2m} + 3M\,\mathbb E_{S,z'_i}\bigl[\,|\ell(A_S, z_i) - \ell(A_{S^i}, z_i)|\,\bigr].ES[(R(A,S)−Remp(A,S))2]≤2mM2+3MES,zi′[∣ℓ(AS,zi)−ℓ(ASi,zi)∣].

The right-hand expectation measures how much the loss at a training point changes once that point is replaced by a fresh one. Together with Chebyshev's inequality this bound gives the empirical half of Theorem 11.

Formalization Note Lemma 9 is stated for i,ji, ji,j with i≠ji \ne ji=j, which presupposes m≥2m \ge 2m≥2; this is a hypothesis here. Inequality (8) involves only iii. The expectation ES,zi′\mathbb E_{S,z'_i}ES,zi′ is the integral against Dm⊗DD^m \otimes DDm⊗D, with SiS^iSi = replaceAt S i z'.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
