Let G=(V,E)G=(V,E)G=(V,E) be a directed graph on the pages p1,…,pnp_1,\dots,p_np1,…,pn and let AAA be its adjacency matrix, Aij=1A_{ij}=1Aij=1 if (pi,pj)∈E(p_i,p_j)\in E(pi,pj)∈E and 000 otherwise. The I\mathcal II operation sends hub weights yyy to the authority weights I(y)p=∑q:(q,p)∈Eyq\mathcal I(y)_p=\sum_{q:(q,p)\in E}y_qI(y)p=∑q:(q,p)∈Eyq, and the O\mathcal OO operation sends authority weights xxx to the hub weights O(x)p=∑q:(p,q)∈Exq\mathcal O(x)_p=\sum_{q:(p,q)\in E}x_qO(x)p=∑q:(p,q)∈Exq. Then, for all vectors x,y∈Rnx,y\in\mathbb R^nx,y∈Rn,

I(y)=A⊤y,O(x)=Ax.\mathcal I(y)=A^{\top}y,\qquad \mathcal O(x)=Ax.I(y)=A⊤y,O(x)=Ax.

This is the step that turns the combinatorial update rules of the algorithm into linear algebra: after it, the iterates are products of the matrices A⊤AA^{\top}AA⊤A and AA⊤AA^{\top}AA⊤ applied to the all-ones vector.

Formalization Note No assumption on GGG is needed; in particular Assumption (†) is not used.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
