Let (R4,ta,hab,∇~)(\mathbb R^4,t_a,h^{ab},\widetilde{\nabla})(R4,ta,hab,∇) be a classical spacetime satisfying the Trautman curvature condition Rabcd=0R^{ab}{}_{cd}=0Rabcd=0. Then the Riemann tensor vanishes on spatial middle indices, and therefore admits the factored form

Rabcd=tb(tcFad−tdFac),R^a{}_{bcd}=t_b\bigl(t_c F^a{}_d-t_d F^a{}_c\bigr),Rabcd=tb(tcFad−tdFac),

where Fad:=Ra00dF^a{}_d:=R^a{}_{00d}Fad:=Ra00d.

This is the first structural step of Malament's Trautman recovery (Prop. 4.2.5): it isolates the gravitational field strength FadF^a{}_dFad from the curvature of ∇~\widetilde{\nabla}∇.

/-- From CurvConds (3) (and classical structure), the Riemann tensor of `Γt` vanishes whenever
the middle index is spatial, and hence
`R^a{}_{bcd} = t_b (t_c F^a{}_d - t_d F^a{}_c)` with `F^a{}_d = R^a{}_{00d}`. -/

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
