This is a general comparison principle for sequential relaxations.

Let XXX and YYY be topological spaces, let PPP and QQQ be pre-energies on XXX and YYY, let T:X→YT:X\to YT:X→Y be continuous, and let κ∈[0,∞)\kappa\in[0,\infty)κ∈[0,∞) be an NNReal. Assume that every test fff of PPP admits a test ggg of QQQ such that

Q.toAmbient⁡(g)=T(P.toAmbient⁡(f))Q.\operatorname{toAmbient}(g)=T(P.\operatorname{toAmbient}(f))Q.toAmbient(g)=T(P.toAmbient(f))

and

Q.energy⁡(g)≤κ P.energy⁡(f).Q.\operatorname{energy}(g)\le \kappa\,P.\operatorname{energy}(f).Q.energy(g)≤κP.energy(f).

Then, for every x∈Xx\in Xx∈X with finite PPP-sequential relaxation,

Q.sequentialRelaxation⁡(Tx)≤κ P.sequentialRelaxation⁡(x).Q.\operatorname{sequentialRelaxation}(Tx) \le \kappa\,P.\operatorname{sequentialRelaxation}(x).Q.sequentialRelaxation(Tx)≤κP.sequentialRelaxation(x).

This reusable lemma transports finite energy comparisons through continuous maps.

Formalization Note Energies and relaxations take values in [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞] (ENNReal), while κ\kappaκ is coerced from NNReal; the finiteness premise excludes a top-valued source relaxation.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
