Lemma 7.3 — is an average-case -biometric embedding
ProvedFuzzyExtractors.EditSketch.lemma_7_3Let be a finite alphabet and . Let map a string (length , insertion/deletion distance) to its -shingling, a subset of , compared in the set-difference metric . For every and real , is an average-case
biometric embedding of into . That is:
- if are within insertions and deletions, then ;
- for every pair with , we have .
Shingling turns the edit metric, for which no direct secure sketch is known, into set difference while losing a controlled amount of entropy.
Formalization Note. The paper says "for any "; is made explicit (it is needed for and for the shingles to exist). is ⌈(n : ℝ) / c⌉₊. The edit distance is the published weighted edit distance with insertion/deletion cost and replacement cost ; the intermediate strings of an edit sequence may have any length, and shingles is defined for every length.
