This lemma is a technical determinant differentiation formula.

Let EEE be a real normed vector space, let A:E→Fin⁡(n)→Fin⁡(n)→RA:E\to\operatorname{Fin}(n)\to\operatorname{Fin}(n)\to\mathbb RA:E→Fin(n)→Fin(n)→R, and suppose every scalar entry y↦A(y)kly\mapsto A(y)_{kl}y↦A(y)kl is differentiable at x∈Ex\in Ex∈E. Fix a row jjj, a replacement row c:Fin⁡(n)→Rc:\operatorname{Fin}(n)\to\mathbb Rc:Fin(n)→R, and a direction v∈Ev\in Ev∈E. Then

D[y↦det⁡(updateRow⁡(A(y),j,c))]x(v)=∑k{0,k=j,det⁡(updateRow⁡(updateRow⁡(A(x),j,c),k,D(Ak∙)x(v))),k≠j.D\left[y\mapsto\det(\operatorname{updateRow}(A(y),j,c))\right]_x(v) =\sum_k \begin{cases}0,&k=j,\\ \det\bigl(\operatorname{updateRow}(\operatorname{updateRow}(A(x),j,c),k,D(A_{k\bullet})_x(v))\bigr),&k\ne j. \end{cases}D[y↦det(updateRow(A(y),j,c))]x(v)=k∑{0,det(updateRow(updateRow(A(x),j,c),k,D(Ak∙)x(v))),k=j,k=j.

The declaration fderiv_det_updateRow_readable is used as a local algebraic rule and makes no symmetry, positivity, or invertibility assumption on the matrices.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
