Same setting: TTT is a Σ\SigmaΣ-theory, DDD is Morita data with extension T+T^+T+ in signature Σ+\Sigma^+Σ+, and N,N′N, N'N,N′ are models of T+T^+T+.

Statement. Let g=(gs)s∈Σ+g = (g_s)_{s \in \Sigma^+}g=(gs)s∈Σ+ be a sort-indexed family of maps gs:Ns→Ns′g_s : N_s \to N'_sgs:Ns→Ns′ satisfying:

  • (homomorphism) ggg commutes with the interpretation of every function symbol of Σ+\Sigma^+Σ+, and
  • (elementary on old sorts) the restriction of ggg to the old sorts is an elementary embedding of Σ\SigmaΣ-reducts: for every Σ\SigmaΣ-formula φ(xˉ)\varphi(\bar x)φ(xˉ) and every assignment vˉ\bar vvˉ in NNN,
ΠN′⊨φ[g(vˉ)]  ⟺  ΠN⊨φ[vˉ].\Pi N' \models \varphi[g(\bar v)] \iff \Pi N \models \varphi[\bar v].ΠN′⊨φ[g(vˉ)]⟺ΠN⊨φ[vˉ].

Then ggg is an elementary embedding of Σ+\Sigma^+Σ+-structures: for every Σ+\Sigma^+Σ+-formula φ(xˉ)\varphi(\bar x)φ(xˉ), in any context of Σ+\Sigma^+Σ+-sorts, and every assignment vˉ\bar vvˉ in NNN,

N′⊨φ[g(vˉ)]  ⟺  N⊨φ[vˉ].N' \models \varphi[g(\bar v)] \iff N \models \varphi[\bar v].N′⊨φ[g(vˉ)]⟺N⊨φ[vˉ].

This is the second half of the "Π is full" argument in Barrett–Halvorson. Each variable of a new sort is represented by variables of old sorts: product elements by their projections, coproduct elements by a preimage under an injection, subset elements by their inclusion, and quotient elements by a representative. This turns φ\varphiφ into a Σ+\Sigma^+Σ+-formula in old-sorted variables. By the translation theorem (Barrett–Halvorson, Theorem 4.3 / Corollary 4.1), that formula is T+T^+T+-equivalent to a Σ\SigmaΣ-formula, and elementarity on the reducts applies to the Σ\SigmaΣ-formula. The homomorphism property of ggg carries the representation from NNN over to N′N'N′.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
