Let XXX be a topological vector space and YYY a locally convex topological vector space over K=R\mathbb K=\mathbb RK=R or C\mathbb CC, and let EEE be a set of continuous linear maps X→YX\to YX→Y. Put

BE={ x∈X:Ex is bounded in Y }.B_E=\{\,x\in X : E x \text{ is bounded in } Y\,\}.BE={x∈X:Ex is bounded in Y}.

If BEB_EBE is not meagre (not a countable union of nowhere dense sets), then BE=XB_E=XBE=X and EEE is equicontinuous.

No completeness or metrizability of XXX is assumed. Theorem 3.0.1 for Fréchet spaces follows, since Fréchet spaces are Baire spaces.

What the Lean code literally says, in plain math · Aristotle (Harmonic)

Let K\mathbb KK be a real-or-complex scalar field (in practice R\mathbb RR or C\mathbb CC). Let VVV be a K\mathbb KK-vector space that is also a real vector space with compatible scalar multiplications (multiplying by a real number rrr is the same as multiplying by r∈Kr\in\mathbb Kr∈K), carrying a topology in which addition and negation are continuous, scalar multiplication K×V→V\mathbb K\times V\to VK×V→V is jointly continuous, and which is Hausdorff (no completeness, metrizability or local convexity is assumed for VVV). Let YYY be a K\mathbb KK-vector space that is also a real vector space with compatible scalar multiplications (multiplying by a real number rrr is the same as multiplying by r∈Kr\in\mathbb Kr∈K), carrying a topology in which addition and negation are continuous, scalar multiplication K×Y→Y\mathbb K\times Y\to YK×Y→Y is jointly continuous, and which is Hausdorff, which is moreover locally convex as a real topological vector space. Let EEE be a set of continuous K\mathbb KK-linear maps V→YV\to YV→Y, and put

G={x∈V:{Tx:T∈E} is bounded in Y}.G=\{x\in V : \{Tx : T\in E\}\text{ is bounded in } Y\}.G={x∈V:{Tx:T∈E} is bounded in Y}.

Assume GGG is not meagre in VVV (it is not contained in a countable union of closed sets with empty interior). Here bounded means von Neumann bounded over K\mathbb KK: every neighbourhood of 000 absorbs the set (for each neighbourhood UUU of 000 there is r>0r>0r>0 such that the set is contained in cUcUcU for all scalars c∈Kc\in\mathbb Kc∈K with ∣c∣≥r|c|\ge r∣c∣≥r).

Then both: (a) G=VG=VG=V, and (b) EEE (as a set of functions V→YV\to YV→Y) is equicontinuous. Equicontinuous (the bundle's definition): for every neighbourhood UUU of 000 in the target there is a neighbourhood NNN of 000 in the source with T(N)⊆UT(N)\subseteq UT(N)⊆U for every map TTT in the family.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
