Let X,Y,ZX, Y, ZX,Y,Z be Fréchet spaces over K=R\mathbb K=\mathbb RK=R or C\mathbb CC and let β:X×Y→Z\beta: X\times Y\to Zβ:X×Y→Z be a bilinear map that is continuous in each variable separately. Then

β:X×Y→Z  is jointly continuous.\beta : X\times Y\to Z \ \text{ is jointly continuous.}β:X×Y→Z  is jointly continuous.

Formalization Note β\betaβ is a K\mathbb KK-bilinear map, given as a linear map X→(Y→KZ)X\to(Y\to_{\mathbb K} Z)X→(Y→KZ).

What the Lean code literally says, in plain math · Aristotle (Harmonic)

Let K\mathbb KK be a real-or-complex scalar field (in practice R\mathbb RR or C\mathbb CC). Let XXX, YYY, ZZZ be three spaces, each of which is a K\mathbb KK-vector space that is also a real vector space with compatible scalar multiplications, carrying a uniform structure for which addition and subtraction are uniformly continuous (the canonical translation-invariant uniformity), with jointly continuous scalar multiplication by K\mathbb KK, and Hausdorff. Assume each of XXX, YYY, ZZZ is Fréchet. Fréchet (the bundle's definition, applied to the given uniform structure): locally convex as a real topological vector space, the topology is metrizable, and the space is complete for its uniform structure (every Cauchy filter converges).

Let β\betaβ be a K\mathbb KK-bilinear map X×Y→ZX\times Y\to ZX×Y→Z (given as a K\mathbb KK-linear map from XXX to the K\mathbb KK-linear maps Y→ZY\to ZY→Z), such that (1) for each fixed x∈Xx\in Xx∈X the map y↦β(x,y)y\mapsto\beta(x,y)y↦β(x,y) is continuous, and (2) for each fixed y∈Yy\in Yy∈Y the map x↦β(x,y)x\mapsto\beta(x,y)x↦β(x,y) is continuous. Then the map X×Y→ZX\times Y\to ZX×Y→Z, (x,y)↦β(x,y)(x,y)\mapsto\beta(x,y)(x,y)↦β(x,y), is continuous for the product topology on X×YX\times YX×Y.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
