If z↦az+bz\mapsto az+bz↦az+b with a≠0a\ne0a=0 sends Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α into itself, then b=0b=0b=0 and a2m=1a^{2m}=1a2m=1

Let m≥2m\ge 2m≥2 be an integer, let α∈C\alpha\in\mathbb{C}α∈C satisfy ∣α∣=1|\alpha|=1∣α∣=1 and α≠αˉ\alpha\ne\bar\alphaα=αˉ (so α\alphaα is not real), and let Cm,α={z∈C:Re⁡(zm(∣z∣2+α))=0}C_{m,\alpha}=\{z\in\mathbb{C} : \operatorname{Re}\bigl(z^m(|z|^2+\alpha)\bigr)=0\}Cm,α={z∈C:Re(zm(∣z∣2+α))=0}. Let a,b∈Ca,b\in\mathbb{C}a,b∈C with a≠0a\ne0a=0, and suppose that the affine map z↦az+bz\mapsto az+bz↦az+b sends Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α into itself, that is, az+b∈Cm,αaz+b\in C_{m,\alpha}az+b∈Cm,α for every z∈Cm,αz\in C_{m,\alpha}z∈Cm,α.

Then

b=0anda2m=1,b=0\qquad\text{and}\qquad a^{2m}=1,b=0anda2m=1,

so the map is a rotation z↦azz\mapsto azz↦az about the origin through an integer multiple of π/m\pi/mπ/m. Only the inclusion is assumed, and ∣a∣=1|a|=1∣a∣=1 is not assumed.

It treats the orientation-preserving maps in the description of the Euclidean symmetries of Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α in Theorem 2 of the note (the 2m2m2m rotations z↦czz\mapsto czz↦cz, c2m=1c^{2m}=1c2m=1, of equation (3)), and it is used to characterize the isometries of the plane that preserve Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α. The quartic case m=2m=2m=2 is included.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
