The hyperbola step: if u is transcendental over F ⊆ ℂ with uū ∈ F, c₁, c₂ ∈ F, and c₁ + u, c₂ + ū are algebraically dependent, then c₁ and c₂ are algebraic

Let be a subfield of and transcendental over with , and let . If the pair is not algebraically independent over , then and are algebraic.
Proof. By DiazModulus.transcendental_add_mul_add_mul_conj, is transcendental over , hence over , so the dependence makes algebraic over (Transcendence.isAlgebraic_adjoin_of_not_algebraicIndependent_pair): with and . With , the polynomial has coefficients in and , since . As is transcendental over , , so and is algebraic, being non-zero. For the same argument is applied to , which is transcendental over by DiazModulus.transcendental_add_mul_add_mul_conj again, with and the swapped pair ; no factorisation is needed.
