Let m≥2m\ge 2m≥2 be an integer, let α∈C\alpha\in\mathbb{C}α∈C satisfy ∣α∣=1|\alpha|=1∣α∣=1 and α≠αˉ\alpha\ne\bar\alphaα=αˉ (so α\alphaα is not real), and let Cm,α={z∈C:Re⁡(zm(∣z∣2+α))=0}C_{m,\alpha}=\{z\in\mathbb{C} : \operatorname{Re}\bigl(z^m(|z|^2+\alpha)\bigr)=0\}Cm,α={z∈C:Re(zm(∣z∣2+α))=0}. Let C^=C∪{∞}\widehat{\mathbb{C}}=\mathbb{C}\cup\{\infty\}C=C∪{∞} be the Riemann sphere and let C^m,α\widehat{C}_{m,\alpha}Cm,α be the closure of Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α in C^\widehat{\mathbb{C}}C. A matrix h=(hjk)∈GL2(C)h=(h_{jk})\in\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{C})h=(hjk)∈GL2(C) acts on C^\widehat{\mathbb{C}}C by the Möbius transformation p↦(h11p+h12)/(h21p+h22)p\mapsto(h_{11}p+h_{12})/(h_{21}p+h_{22})p↦(h11p+h12)/(h21p+h22), with the usual conventions at ∞\infty∞ and at the pole. Let Gm,αG_{m,\alpha}Gm,α be the group, under composition, of the bijections σ\sigmaσ of C^\widehat{\mathbb{C}}C that are induced by some matrix in GL2(C)\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{C})GL2(C) and satisfy σ(p)∈C^m,α  ⟺  p∈C^m,α\sigma(p)\in\widehat{C}_{m,\alpha}\iff p\in\widehat{C}_{m,\alpha}σ(p)∈Cm,α⟺p∈Cm,α for every p∈C^p\in\widehat{\mathbb{C}}p∈C; these are the holomorphic Möbius transformations mapping C^m,α\widehat{C}_{m,\alpha}Cm,α onto itself.

Then Gm,αG_{m,\alpha}Gm,α is finite, with

∣Gm,α∣=4m.|G_{m,\alpha}|=4m.∣Gm,α∣=4m.

This is the order of the ambient symmetry group in Theorem 2 of the note, whose elements are the maps of equation (3): z↦czz\mapsto czz↦cz with c2m=1c^{2m}=1c2m=1, and z↦c/zz\mapsto c/zz↦c/z with c2m=αˉ2c^{2m}=\bar\alpha^{2}c2m=αˉ2. Anti-Möbius maps are not elements of Gm,αG_{m,\alpha}Gm,α; that none of them preserves C^m,α\widehat{C}_{m,\alpha}Cm,α is a separate result. The quartic case m=2m=2m=2 is included.

Formalization Note: The sphere is OnePoint ℂ. The group Gm,αG_{m,\alpha}Gm,α is a subgroup of the permutations of the sphere, namely the image of GL2(C)\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{C})GL2(C) intersected with the stabilizer of C^m,α\widehat{C}_{m,\alpha}Cm,α, so proportional matrices give the same element; C^m,α\widehat{C}_{m,\alpha}Cm,α is the topological closure of the image of Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α. The cardinality is Nat.card, so the equation also asserts finiteness.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
