This characterizes weighted-gradient tests as covariance-gradient tests.

Let VVV be a complete real inner-product space with its measurable structure, let ν\nuν be a probability measure on VVV, and let B:V→VB:V\to VB:V→V be a continuous linear map. Assume that for every v∈Vv\in Vv∈V,

⟨Cov⁡(ν)v,v⟩=∥Bv∥2.\langle \operatorname{Cov}(\nu)v,v\rangle=\|Bv\|^2.⟨Cov(ν)v,v⟩=∥Bv∥2.

Then for every function g:V→Rg:V\to\mathbb Rg:V→R,

IsTest⁡(ν,B,g)⟺∃f∈Test⁡(ν), f=g.\operatorname{IsTest}(\nu,B,g) \quad\Longleftrightarrow\quad \exists f\in\operatorname{Test}(\nu),\ f=g.IsTest(ν,B,g)⟺∃f∈Test(ν), f=g.

Here IsTest ν B g is the weighted-gradient test condition and Test ν is the covariance-gradient test class.

The equivalence transfers between the two test descriptions whenever the covariance quadratic form is represented by the squared norm of BBB.

Formalization Note No finite-dimensionality assumption is required by this declaration.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
