There is a threshold N0N_0N0 such that every even integer n≥N0n \ge N_0n≥N0 can be written as n=p+qn = p + qn=p+q where ppp is prime and qqq is either prime or a product of two primes (an almost-prime P2P_2P2).

This is Chen Jingrun's 1966/1973 theorem \u2014 the strongest unconditional result toward the strong Goldbach conjecture, and the canonical demonstration of the parity barrier of sieve theory: weighted sieves cannot distinguish primes from P2P_2P2's once both linear and bilinear error terms are controlled at the level x1/2−εx^{1/2-\varepsilon}x1/2−ε. No sieve argument can remove the P2P_2P2 possibility, so closing Goldbach requires genuinely new input (bilinear estimates beyond the parity barrier, or the circle method in the binary case where its minor-arc information is currently too weak).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
