Let Ω\OmegaΩ be an arbitrary set (of outcomes), let M,r∈NM,r\in\mathbb{N}M,r∈N, and let ai,Bi∈Na_i,B_i\in\mathbb{N}ai,Bi∈N for i∈{0,…,M−1}i\in\{0,\dots,M-1\}i∈{0,…,M−1} satisfy the padding condition Bi+1≤ai+2rB_i+1\le a_i+2rBi+1≤ai+2r for every iii. Fix x∈Rx\in\mathbb{R}x∈R and write {w}=w−⌊w⌋\{w\}=w-\lfloor w\rfloor{w}=w−⌊w⌋ for the fractional part. Say that a family of Boolean tests Q(ω,i,y)∈{true,false}Q(\omega,i,y)\in\{\mathrm{true},\mathrm{false}\}Q(ω,i,y)∈{true,false}, for ω∈Ω\omega\in\Omegaω∈Ω, i<Mi<Mi<M and y∈Ry\in\mathbb{R}y∈R, factors through the grids BBB if for all ω,i,y,z\omega,i,y,zω,i,y,z

⌊2Bi+2{y}⌋=⌊2Bi+2{z}⌋ ⟹ Q(ω,i,y)=Q(ω,i,z).\bigl\lfloor 2^{B_i+2}\{y\}\bigr\rfloor=\bigl\lfloor 2^{B_i+2}\{z\}\bigr\rfloor\ \Longrightarrow\ Q(\omega,i,y)=Q(\omega,i,z).⌊2Bi+2{y}⌋=⌊2Bi+2{z}⌋ ⟹ Q(ω,i,y)=Q(ω,i,z).

Theorem. There is a finite set R⊆[1,2]R\subseteq[1,2]R⊆[1,2] with ∣R∣≤1+M r 22r+2|R|\le 1+M\,r\,2^{2r+2}∣R∣≤1+Mr22r+2 such that for every t∈[1,2]t\in[1,2]t∈[1,2] there is t′∈Rt'\in Rt′∈R with the following property: for every family QQQ that factors through the grids BBB, every ω∈Ω\omega\in\Omegaω∈Ω, every i<Mi<Mi<M and every j∈{0,…,r−1}j\in\{0,\dots,r-1\}j∈{0,…,r−1},

Q(ω,i, x+t′ 2−(ai+j))=Q(ω,i, x+t 2−(ai+j)).Q\bigl(\omega,i,\,x+t'\,2^{-(a_i+j)}\bigr)=Q\bigl(\omega,i,\,x+t\,2^{-(a_i+j)}\bigr).Q(ω,i,x+t′2−(ai+j))=Q(ω,i,x+t2−(ai+j)).

One should think of child iii as carrying the window of dyadic scales ai,ai+1,…,ai+r−1a_i,a_i+1,\dots,a_i+r-1ai,ai+1,…,ai+r−1, all windows having the same length rrr. The essential point is the order of quantifiers: the representative scale t′t't′ is chosen from RRR before the outcome ω\omegaω and before the tests QQQ, so a single deterministic finite set of scales serves all outcomes and all such tests at once.

Formalization Note The tests are functions Q : Ω → Fin M → ℝ → Bool, and 2−(ai+j)2^{-(a_i+j)}2−(ai+j) is written ((2 : ℝ)⁻¹) ^ (a i + j.val).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
